Decision to Love - Trail Marker #1
Our lives are shaped by countless decisions we make each day. Many times, we don’t feel like we have much say in what happens to us, but the truth is, we have more power to choose than we often realize. In this first step of the journey, I invite you to recognize your power to choose and discover how your choices can influence your life for the better.

Questions to Ponder:
1. How did Lindy’s decision to play volleyball change the way she felt? What decisions have you made that changed not only your circumstances but also the way you felt or viewed a situation?
2. Lindy and Mat often had good intentions but sometimes misunderstood each other’s actions. What are some examples where Lindy misunderstood Mat’s intentions? What are some examples where Mat misunderstood Lindy’s intentions? How can two people both be trying to love and still hurt, frustrate or disappoint each other?
3. How would you describe your relationship with God? Lindy worried that God might not answer her prayers because she wasn’t doing enough of the “right” things. How does our understanding of love shape our relationship with God and how we believe He sees us?
4. How did fear influence Lindy’s decisions about love and relationships? How can fear influence our own decisions?

🥾Trail Challenge: Recognizing Your Choices
This first step of the journey may feel uncomfortable at times. Learning to love more fully requires us to look honestly at ourselves, our choices, and the ways we influence the people around us. This journey is not about blaming ourselves for things outside our control, but about discovering the power we do have—the power to choose how we respond, how we grow, and how we love.
This week, pay attention to the small decisions you make each day. Notice how your choices affect your emotions, your relationships, and the way you view your circumstances. You might try setting a timer at different times throughout the day as a reminder to pause and become aware of the choices you are making.
Ask yourself:
“What am I choosing in this moment?"
"How are my choices affecting me and the people around me?"
"Is there another choice I could make that might help me feel more peace, connection, or happiness in this moment?"
"Am I taking responsibility for my choices, or am I giving away my power by believing I have no choice?"
"How might becoming more aware of my choices help me love myself and others more fully?"
Suggestion for deeper relationships:
Sometimes we are unaware of how our actions affect others. Other times, we may recognize the impact of our choices but still choose based on our own desires, fears, or frustrations. The next step in learning to love is becoming more mindful and choosing to care.
Make the decision to love by becoming more aware of how your actions affect yourself and others and make more conscious decisions to make good and healthy choices.
